Entrepreneur Success: “Seek first to understand, then to be understood”

It’s *Mindset Monday* and it’s time to listen…

The ability to listen is one of the best skills you can cultivate

My kids’ school uses Stephen R. Covey’s “Leader in Me” curriculum.  They learn, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”  My 6-year old chants this habit, and loves to point out when she’s doing it ( or when someone else isn’t…)

We all want to be heard.

And sometimes our desire to be understood is exactly what gets in the way of us hearing others.

We want someone else to listen and “get” what we are saying so badly, that we forget to offer them the same.  When it comes to your business, learning to listen so intently that you understand, is the best possible way to find solutions.  In fact, understanding is the only way to find solutions.

The only way to solve a problem is to understand what’s actually happening.

This includes listening to those you are working with, and making an effort to understand what they are saying.  When we can listen with the intent of understanding, we can eliminate wasted time, annoyance, and blatant misunderstandings.

What if your desire to understand someone else was as strong as your desire to be understood?

What would be different?  How much better would your relationships be?  How much faster and easier would it be to solve problems?

Give it a try this week.

“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”

Have a great week!
