the water is amazing

Woo hoo! It’s *Think it Thursday* and the water is amazing

I’m on vacation this week in Florida with my kids for Spring Break.
Wait, back up. I’m on a trip and my kids are on vacation 😉
(We all know how that goes, right?)

The water here is crazy bright blue! It’s gorgeous. The pictures are unbelievable.
I posted some pics on social media and sent some to friends too.
Everyone said, “Wow, enjoy that weather!”
“It looks perfect!”

In reality, when I took those pics it was in the 50s and windy.
We were freezing. I was wearing a sweatshirt and pants and the kid’s teeth were chattering.
But you’d never know it from the pictures.

It’s like when you see someone who seems to have it all together and you say, “How does she do it?”
Or you see a couple who looks happy and in love and you think, “Why isn’t my marriage like that?”
And you see a family laughing and perhaps you’re just wondering … “How do I keep my kids from fighting for 5 minutes?”

The picture is an illusion. And yet it’s real at the same time.
The beach was gorgeous. Breathtaking.
And freezing and slightly miserable too.

Your life is amazing and full of good.
And it’s full of frustration and heartache at the same time.

Enjoy what the picture has to offer and appreciate it.
And yet, don’t allow your brain believe that something is wrong with your life.
Your life is just as it should be.
Positive and negative and all of it.
That’s life. And it’s beautiful. Just like the water…

Have an amazing day, one thought at a time!

the secret to more energy

It’s *Think it Thursday* and I’m sharing with you the secret to more energy.

I’m teaching you something today that is my lifeline.

Some of you know I have chronic fatigue and it’s a constant challenge.

But this concept I’m telling you about, is a game changer.

Because we all get exhausted and worn out, especially as a mom.

My secret – energy management.

We hear a lot about time management, but the truth is that if you had more energy, you would make much better use of your time, right?

You can’t create more hours in the day, but you can create more energy.

There are certain things you do that energize you – maybe it’s alone time, maybe it’s social time.  Maybe it’s laughing or creating.  Take a minute to notice what energizes you.

There are other things that require more mental and emotional energy.  Leading kids in chores, balancing the budget, or sifting through your schedule for the week… stack these up and it could leave you spent, exhausted, with nothing left to give.

The key is to plan and manage your activities based on how they impact your energy.  The right combination is all the difference.

Think about this.  Time is finite.  There are 24 hour every day, period.

Energy is fluid.  You can manage your energy by building in plenty of activities that increase your energy, amongst those that drain it.

So today, here is your assignment:

List energizing and energy-depleting activities.  Plan them in to support you having sustained energy.  Revisit this idea often and just notice how you have the ability to manage your energy.

Have a great day – one thought at a time!

Life. It doesn’t get any better.

It’s *Think it Thursday* and yesterday I had a good cry with a friend of mine.

A long one.

We were talking about the crazy twists and turns of life.
Loss, heartache, frustrations.
We talked about how the challenges of life – never really go away.
We always think that life will be better once X, Y, or Z is over.

But there’s always another challenge just around the corner.

Why the downer blog today?  Well, I actually don’t see it as a downer at all.

Because while I know that hard things are inevitable in the future, I also know that I can handle it. I know I can survive any emotion.  I can feel and process my feelings, and be okay.

I understand how my brain works and that often my brain will compound the stress I’m experiencing.  Because I have these coaching tools – I can eliminate unnecessary suffering, even if it doesn’t extinguish all the pain.

That’s why the key to a better life isn’t fixing what’s happening around us, but in understanding how to navigate what’s happening around us.  When we trust the process of life, we can handle it.  We can see more clearly and become stronger.

That’s what I teach my clients how to do to.
Life doesn’t get easier, but your ability to do life – can get better every single day.  That’s good news.  Your circumstances don’t have to change.  You can.

Life’s amazing and good and fun.
And it’s also hard and painful and sad.
It’s all of it, which makes it meaningful.
And that’s how we become who we are meant to be.

You’ve got this.  I promise.

Have a great day, one thought at a time!

Hey Mamas!  It’s time for *Mindset Monday*…

One of my clients has had a really hard time committing to a morning routine.  She does best with a plan, but hates to lock herself in.  She enjoys some flexibility.

She’s been trying to establish that morning routine for years.

She said it’s hard to decide how best to do it.

She said it’s a challenge to pick the right time so she’s not tired.

Her brain was making it so much more complicated than it needed to be.

The only reason getting up early was making her tired was because of all the indecision she was allowing to happen.

Indecision is exhausting and it’s the fastest route to nowhere.

So, we decided she needed to commit.  She chose right then and there on our call.

She chose her wake up time, what her routine consisted of, and how long she would continue that plan.

Then end.  Decision made.

She felt relieved that’s she’d made a decision and was going to do it no matter what.

Now if she was a little tired, she could figure out how to compensate – but the wake up time was not negotiable.

Where does indecision have you stuck?  What if you had to make a decision today?  What freedom might you feel as you move out of indecision and into intentional action?

Have a great week!

I resent that.

It’s time for *Think it Thursday* and it’s all about resentment.

Such an ugly word, right?

I’ve had 4 conversations about resentment with clients this week.  And then, just yesterday – I experienced my own feeling of resentment coming up.

And so, it’s time we talk about it.

Jackie was feeling resentment toward her extended family.  She was offering them her time to complete a project and she felt unappreciated and disrespected.  She couldn’t understand how to feel anything but resentment.  It seemed to be her only option.

But it wasn’t.  We always have an option in the feelings we choose to create.

So why would we ever choose resentment? Why do we?

And why do we hang on to it?

And what in the world do we do about it?

Jackie had a hard time releasing the resentment for one simple reason – if she didn’t feel resentful then it seemed that she was disrespecting herself.  Her mind was telling her that if she felt resentment it would somehow be fighting for what she wanted from her family.  As if it was helping her get the result she wanted.

But it wasn’t.

The only thing resentment was doing was ruining her experience.  She was still helping her family, but rather than feeling like a giving and loving person, she was feeling tight and unhappy.

Resentment is never useful.  It never enhances your experience and it never gets you closer to what you really want.

And resentment…. is optional.

Just like all emotions it’s a feeling you create.

Jackie decided she wanted to create something better.  She decided to feel good about the kind of person she is and appreciate herself for it.  She felt proud that she’s a person who does what she says.  She felt generous as she rearranged her schedule because she wanted to.

It didn’t matter what her family said or did.  She was creating the feelings she wanted for her.  And feeling amazing.

If resentment is fooling you into thinking it’s useful, now you know.

You can create the experience you want, regardless of the circumstance.

What is resentment telling your brain it’s doing?  How does it seem to be helping you?  If you release the resentment, what do you fear you’re giving up?  Think about it.  Understanding what’s happening in your brain is the first step in creating something better.

You create your feelings.

Create good ones.

Feel amazing.

Have a great week, one thought at a time!
