One small habit is THE difference for entrepreneurs

I’ve been Organizing and decluttering my house.  It’s a big project, but it feels amazing.

Last weekend Nicole was coming over to help me finish what we’d started on my kids’ work station.

As I was getting ready for her, I looked around and wondered if I’d really made any progress since she’d been there.  I could see how far I had to go before having everything the way I wanted it.

I started to think my “go to” thoughts that “organization is hard for me.”

But as soon as we started working –  I realized how much progress I had made.

I was reminded of all that I had straightened up, given away, and the minor changes to my daily systems.

When I could see how far I’d come, I felt hopeful and motivated to keep going.

One of the biggest downfalls of entrepreneurs is focusing on how far we have to go, and failing to recognize how far we’ve come.

Recognizing our success is much more than a pat on the back; it’s the make it happen mojo we need to keep going and ultimately achieve our goals.

Todd Herman of The 90-Day Year teaches this same phenomenon in his business coaching program.  He says that business owners with an “Oww Brain” focus on how far they have to go, whereas those with a “Wow Brain,” look at how far they’ve come.

This one small difference in thinking will determine if you stay the course and create the success you are working toward, or if you give up.

Our thoughts create our feelings and our feelings drive our actions.  A successful business requires massive action.

The only way we will consistently take the kind of action we need to, is if our thoughts and feelings are aligned with our goals.

So, how about you?  Do you focus enough attention on how far you’ve come?   If not, it’s time to make this practice a priority.

Start now by making a list of what you’ve accomplished so far in your business.  Write down all the milestones, big or small, and think about what it took to achieve them.

Next, make this a habit.  Mark your calendar for one month from today and do it all over again.

Don’t underestimate this small habit.  It really is THE difference between those who create success, and those who decide that it’s just not worth it.

I believe it’s definitely worth it.

Motivation Must Be Created

Time for *Mindset Monday*

Let’s be honest…

Sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated.
Especially when we have experienced repeated failed attempts, or we feel like we are just not progressing as quickly as we’d like.

When this happens, where do we find the motivation?
Well, we don’t find motivation, we create it.

Motivation is a feeling and our feelings are created by our thoughts.  If we believe we will make a million dollars this year, we will probably be pretty motivated to get to work.  On the contrary, if we only perceive more failures in our future … it’s hard to roll up our sleeves and dig in.

The way we think about our life and our business will determine whether we feel motivated or not.
We often think that we need external rewards to stay motivated, but intrinsic motivation is the only lasting kind.

There are some great ways to jump start motivation, but you can’t expect them to come to you.
Here are a few easy ideas:

Hire a coach to help you with your thought patterns and beliefs.  Find a mentor to give you guidance. Listen to inspiring podcasts or read books that encourage you.

Be proactive in creating motivation and you will establish lasting patterns that will drive success.

I hope you have a great week full of intrinsic motivation!

Mompreneur, Life Change Agent

Do it anyway: a key to success

It’s time for *Mindset Monday*

Created for Entrepreneurs, Moms, and other Life Change-Agents.  Let’s go.

As an entrepreneur, hopefully you’ve created a business that you love.

You’ve taken your passion and your gifts, and you offer them to the world.  You create your schedule.  You set things up the way you want them to be, for the kind of business you want to have.

But sometimes, you may not want to go to work.

Sometimes you don’t want to crunch the numbers.

Sometimes you’d rather do anything than what’s on your agenda.

But as a successful business owner…you do it anyway.

Part of being committed to your success is doing things, even when you don’t feel like it.

You’ve already made a decision to be consistent and create success.  Because of that commitment, come rain or shine… you do it anyway.

This week rather than debate about whether or not you will do what’s on your agenda, remind yourself of the success you are working toward, and do it anyway.

When you start to wallow or dread, do it anyway.

When something more exciting in the moment is pulling you away from what you planned… do it anyway.

Not because you “have” to, but because you are committed to your own success.

Because you are willing to invest in you.

Make it a great week!

Success… No Matter What.

**Mindset Monday**

How committed are you to making your business succeed?

It’s no secret that most new businesses fail.  Yep – about 80% crash and burn within 18 months.  When you become an entrepreneur you are diving head first into the world of trial and error.  You have to be willing to fail, adjust your systems, and work hard (even when there is no reward in sight.)

The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t isn’t just about a business model or marketing, it’s about a commitment to succeed, no matter what.

When you commit to succeed no matter what, you will be willing to make any changes necessary, rather than stay stuck in your ways.

You will choose to learn from your failures, rather than use them as a reason to believe that you can’t.

You will work hard, even when it’s inconvenient.

You will keep your eye on the prize…

no matter what.

Take a minute and think about the level of commitment driving your business.

Are you going to succeed no matter what?

Solutions for Success

It’s time for *Mindset Monday* and today we’re talking about SOLUTIONS.

Any success that you create comes as a result of overcoming challenges.

Challenges in our business (and life) are the best opportunities to grow, yet too often we spend time complaining, fault-finding, or staying stuck in discouragement.

None of these are useful.

The most useful thing we can do with every challenge that comes our way is to focus on solutions.

This week, use the question, “What is the solution to this problem?” as often as possible.

The moment you notice yourself complaining or blaming, you can put a stop to it.  Immediately.  It’s a waste of precious time and energy.  It’s not useful.

Constantly asking yourself to find solutions will shift all of your energy.  You will find the right solutions quickly.  You will create more momentum, stability, and ultimately more success in your business.

Remember, this applies to your personal life as well.  Focus on solutions at every opportunity.  When you do you’ll find the amount of “problems” in your life will begin to diminish, and your success and happiness will grow.  Have a great week!
