one step at a time

This week I noticed my brain (and my entire being) becoming totally overwhelmed.

My to-do list is a mile long.

The next 4 months of my life will be full of changes, letting go, and new beginnings.

It’s all amazing and yet, I noticed my brain telling me, “It’s too much.”

“You’ll never get it all done.”
“Where will you start?”
“How is it possible?”
“It’s all on you and it’s too much to manage.”

And these thoughts – are the reason I’m feeling overwhelmed.

I don’t really want to feel overwhelmed. I want to feel calm, focused and excited about my life. I want to enjoy my kids, enjoy the freedoms I have, and move toward the future I’ve been working so hard to create. And when I allow myself to feel calm, focused and excited – I remember that I just need to take one step at a time.

Where in your life do you get overwhelmed? What if you could create a sense of calm instead and just take one step at a time?

Life by the yard is hard. Life by the inch is a cinch.

Take one step. Then another. Believe you can – and you will.

Have a beautiful weekend – you deserve it <3

the secret to more energy

It’s *Think it Thursday* and I’m sharing with you the secret to more energy.

I’m teaching you something today that is my lifeline.

Some of you know I have chronic fatigue and it’s a constant challenge.

But this concept I’m telling you about, is a game changer.

Because we all get exhausted and worn out, especially as a mom.

My secret – energy management.

We hear a lot about time management, but the truth is that if you had more energy, you would make much better use of your time, right?

You can’t create more hours in the day, but you can create more energy.

There are certain things you do that energize you – maybe it’s alone time, maybe it’s social time.  Maybe it’s laughing or creating.  Take a minute to notice what energizes you.

There are other things that require more mental and emotional energy.  Leading kids in chores, balancing the budget, or sifting through your schedule for the week… stack these up and it could leave you spent, exhausted, with nothing left to give.

The key is to plan and manage your activities based on how they impact your energy.  The right combination is all the difference.

Think about this.  Time is finite.  There are 24 hour every day, period.

Energy is fluid.  You can manage your energy by building in plenty of activities that increase your energy, amongst those that drain it.

So today, here is your assignment:

List energizing and energy-depleting activities.  Plan them in to support you having sustained energy.  Revisit this idea often and just notice how you have the ability to manage your energy.

Magic.

Have a great day – one thought at a time!

The Lull: Productive and Fun

plan

For most of us the week between holidays is a lull between special days. There’s work to do, but we also want quality family time.

It’s in weeks like these that it’s difficult to be productive. We aren’t as focused as we could be. Sometimes we think, “why bother?” and put even less effort into trying to be focused.

I say this is the BEST time to be extremely focused.

As you start your week, decide ahead of time exactly what work or projects you will finish. Schedule them in and give yourself a very specific time frame to accomplish them.
Then, let the rest go…

Our tendency is to have this idea floating around in the back of our head that we “should” be doing more. I don’t believe it. I should be doing exactly what I said I would do. I’m going to do it within the time frame that I planned to do it. Then, I won’t think about it.

How can you make the lull productive and fun? You are the one who gets to decide how you will experience this week. I recommend making that decision on purpose, rather than by default.

Freeze Time

This week I wish I could freeze time. Every day I watch my teenager tower over me just a bit more. I’m not sure when he became so grown up. He’s my right-hand man and he always holds the door for me when we are out and about.

Just yesterday I was picking out the perfect train set for him. It came in a box with a red lid and his eyes lit up on Christmas morning. He was loud and full of energy.

Now he’s quiet and he sleeps in.

I’m not sure when this all happened. Did I miss it? Did I blink too long? I’m not sure.

In all truth, I don’t want to freeze time… I just want to experience time.

I want to be mentally present with my kids every day. I want to notice what’s happening around me, instead of thinking about what’s next. I want to have conversations about more than just chores and homework. I want to make the most important things a priority now, instead of believing there will be time later.

There is time right now.

Whatever good is happening for you right now in your life, please experience it a little more. Make more of it. Do more of it. Love it more. Love them more.
